Day 188 of 2026- Back to Work After a Long Weekend: Small Tasks to Ease Into Monday

 Hi Friends,

Monday morning after a long weekend can feel a little slow. After a few days of rest, family, fireworks, crowds, and maybe sleeping in, getting back into work mode is not always easy.

So start small today. One task, one email, one decision, one step forward. You do not have to sprint back into the game. You just have to get moving again.

This works because the first hour back is rarely about skill. Your brain simply hasn't switched over yet, and a big, vague project will only make it dig in. What helps is something small and specific enough to finish before your coffee gets cold. Here is what each of those four looks like in real life.

One task. Pick something that takes ten minutes or less and leaves a visible result. Clear the stack of papers on your desk. Refill the printer paper. Rename the folder you have been calling "misc" since March. Update a project status so it matches reality. A finished small task gives you a little hit of momentum, and that is exactly what a slow Monday needs.

One email. Skip the full inbox and choose one message you can answer in under two minutes. Confirm a meeting time. Say "thanks, got it" to something that has been sitting there. Send the quick question you were hesitating on, or reply to the colleague who wrote "hope you had a great weekend," because it takes ten seconds and it warms up your writing brain. Once one is gone, the next feels lighter.

One decision. Decisions pile up quietly over a long weekend, and clearing one can feel surprisingly good. Decide what you are having for lunch so it is not a 12:30 scramble. Choose which meeting you will skip or shorten this week. Pick a time for the report you have been postponing, and put it on the calendar. You are not solving anything big. You are just taking one open question off the list.

One step forward. This is the smallest first move on something larger. Open the document and write the heading. Look up the phone number for the call you have been avoiding. Draft three bullet points for next week's presentation. Put your gym clothes by the door for tomorrow. The goal is not to finish, only to start, because starting is where most of the resistance lives.

If you do these four things, you have already accomplished more than it feels like. By ten o'clock, the weekend dust has usually settled, and the bigger work starts to look manageable. And if you do only one, that still counts. A slow start is not a bad start.

Hope you have a smooth and steady Monday!

Wishing you peace and happiness from my heart to yours!

Peace

Monita
