Hi Friends,
We're now halfway through July. How has your month been so far? What moments brought you joy this month? What are you grateful for? What are your main focus areas? What do you need to make this month truly great? I like to ask myself these reflective questions around mid-month.
I encourage everyone to pause, reflect, and note these thoughts. We often get caught up in everyday activities, making it hard to step back, but doing so is exactly what we need.
The word that matters most there is "note." Thinking about these questions in the shower feels productive, but the answers fade by lunch. Writing even one line for each question gives you something to look at again on the last day of the month. You will be surprised how different the month looks on paper than it does in your memory.
Each question does a different job, so it helps to know what you are really asking.
The joy question is about evidence. Most of us judge how a month is going by the most stressful week, not the whole stretch. Scrolling through your phone photos or calendar often turns up good moments you had already forgotten, like a dinner outside, a funny text, or a Saturday with nothing planned.
The gratitude question works best when the answer is small and specific. "My health" is true, but it does not change how you feel. "The neighbor who watered my plants" does.
The focus question holds the real value. Choose no more than two or three things for the second half of the month. If you list seven, you are making a wish list, not a plan. Ask yourself which of these would make you glad on July 31st if you did them.
The last question, what you need to make the month great, is the one people skip, and it is the most practical. The answer is often not a goal. It might be an earlier bedtime, a free evening, a conversation you have been avoiding, or a day off the phone. Needs are easier to meet than ambitions, and meeting one can change the whole feel of the next two weeks.
If you only have five minutes, do this. Open a note on your phone, type the five questions, and answer each in a single sentence. Don't edit, and don't aim to be wise. Then set a reminder for the end of the month so you can read your answers and see what changed.
Halfway is a useful place to stand. You still have enough time to adjust, and enough behind you to learn from. A short pause today costs very little and can shape the rest of the month.
Wishing you a calm and steady second half of July.
Wishing you peace and happiness from my heart to yours!
Peace
Monita
