Hi Friends,
It's Sunday evening, and I've got that familiar feeling creeping in. You know the one. The weekend's basically over, and my brain is already thinking about tomorrow. The alarm, the inbox, all of it.
Classic Sunday Scaries. Not full-blown dread, just that low-key "ugh, here we go again" feeling.
I have noticed that the feeling is rarely about Monday itself. It is about the gap between the freedom of the weekend and the structure of the week. My mind jumps ahead and starts rehearsing every task before I have even been asked to do them.
But when I actually looked at this week, it was not that bad. Way fewer meetings than usual, which honestly makes a huge difference. Instead of back-to-back calls all day, I have some room to just work. To think. To not be "on" every second. That one small discovery softened the whole evening.
It made me realize how often the Sunday Scaries come from a vague picture in our heads, not from the real calendar. When I looked at the actual week, the worry shrank to its true size.
So here are a few things I try on nights like this. First, I open the calendar and look at the real week, instead of letting my imagination fill in the blanks. Second, I pick one thing I am looking forward to, even something small like a good lunch or a Wednesday walk. Third, I do one tiny task to make Monday easier, like laying out clothes or packing my bag, then I let it go.
I also try to keep Sunday evening gentle. A warm shower, a favorite show, tea instead of a late snack, and an earlier bedtime than usual. A calm night makes for a calmer morning.
If the dread is stronger than a passing feeling, it may be worth asking what is behind it. Sometimes it is workload, sometimes it is a difficult situation, and sometimes it is simply that you need more rest or joy in the week itself. Noticing it is the first step.
Tonight I am landing somewhere in the middle. Still not thrilled that the weekend is ending, but not dreading Monday the way I normally would. Feeling neutral may honestly be the best I can hope for on a Sunday night, and that is perfectly fine.
Anyway, off I go to pretend I am not thinking about my calendar.
How do you handle the Sunday Scaries? Do you have a routine that helps?
Wishing you peace and happiness from my heart to yours!
Peace
Monita
