Hi Friends,
I was feeling a little down today. There wasn't a single major reason. Nothing particularly terrible happened. I just felt a heaviness that made everything harder and made me question what I was working toward.
Some days are like that.
Then, somehow, I came across this quote and felt compelled to share it with you, especially if you have also been thinking about giving up on one of your dreams:
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
—Les Brown
Sometimes the weight quietly creeps up on us. We become tired, discouraged, or disappointed because something is taking longer than we expected. Maybe we have been working toward a goal without seeing much progress. Perhaps responsibilities have taken over, and something we once wanted has slowly moved farther down our list.
We tell ourselves that we will return to it when we have more time, energy, money, or confidence. Then the months and years pass, and we begin to believe that we missed our opportunity. But what if we did not?
What if the dream is not gone? What if it is simply waiting for us to pick it back up?
Age is not the deadline we sometimes imagine it to be. Growth has no expiration date, and no rule says we must accomplish every meaningful goal during one particular stage of life.
We can change our minds, choose a new direction, or return to something we once loved. The dream may also look different now, and that is okay.
You have changed since you first imagined it. You have gained experience, learned lessons, and developed strengths you didn't have before. You may need to adjust the goal to fit the person you are today.
Starting again doesn't mean pretending the time in between didn't happen. It means bringing everything you have learned with you as you move forward. You also do not need to restart with one enormous step. Maybe your dream involves writing, so begin with one page. Maybe you want to improve your health, so start with one walk or one healthier decision.
Maybe you have thought about changing careers. Update your résumé, take a class, or learn more about one opportunity. Maybe you want to return to a creative hobby you abandoned. Give it thirty minutes without judging what you produce. A small beginning is still a beginning.
Feeling discouraged today does not mean you have lost your purpose. It may simply mean you need rest, encouragement, or a reminder that progress is rarely a straight line.
So if today has been hard for you too, let this be your sign. Think about the goal you placed on the shelf. Remember the dream you talked yourself out of pursuing. Ask yourself whether it still matters.
If it does, take one small step toward it.
As I finish writing this post, I notice that the heaviness I felt at the beginning has lifted a little. Nothing outside of me has suddenly changed, but writing these words has helped me reconnect with hope.
It has reminded me that one of my dreams is already happening every time I sit down to write and share a reflection with you. I will remember to keep dreaming, and I will keep posting my daily reflections. Each post allows me to bring a small piece of myself to you.
I hope that something I write reaches you at the right moment. Maybe it will encourage you, lighten your day a little, give you something to think about, or simply offer one small reason to smile.
Perhaps that is part of the dream too.
You are not too old. You are not too late. You have not missed every opportunity available to you. You are allowed to begin again. You are allowed to set another goal.
Most importantly, you are allowed to dream again.
Wishing you peace and happiness from my heart to yours!
Peace,
Monita
