Hi Friends,
There's something about being surrounded by family that resets everything. The conversations, the laughter, even the little chaos of everyone being under one roof again.
We didn't do anything fancy today. Just sat around, told old stories, ate good food, and enjoyed each other's company. Sometimes that's all you need.
I have been thinking about why days like this feel so rich when nothing special actually happened. I think it is because nobody was performing. No one was checking a schedule or trying to impress anyone. We were simply there, in old clothes, in familiar chairs, being exactly who we are.
The stories were the best part. Someone brought up a road trip from years ago that went wrong in every possible way, and suddenly everyone was talking at once, each person remembering a different detail. The story grew with every retelling, and by the end we laughed so hard nobody could finish a sentence. These are the tales passed around for decades, and they survive only because we keep telling them.
Then there was the food. Nothing fancy, just plates passed down the table and someone always going back for seconds. There is a particular comfort in a meal where no one is counting the time. People linger. Someone makes another pot of coffee. Dishes wait, and nobody minds.
And yes, there was chaos. Kids running through the house, someone talking over someone else, three conversations happening at once. A few years ago that kind of noise might have worn me out. Now I hear it differently. A loud, crowded house means everyone made it home, and that is something to be grateful for.
Days like this do something quiet for me. They lower my shoulders. They remind me what actually matters when the week gets heavy, and the to-do list gets long. Not the perfect plan, not the impressive itinerary, just the people who know me best, sitting close.
If you haven't had a day like this in a while, you don't need much to make one happen. Send a message and invite someone over. Put out whatever food you have. Ask an older relative to tell a story you have never heard, then sit back and listen. You will be surprised how quickly the afternoon fills up.
I will take moments like this over any packed itinerary. This is the good stuff.
Who is the one person you would love to sit around a table with this week?
Wishing you peace and happiness from my heart to yours!
Peace
Monita
