Hi Friends,
It’s Tuesday, and the accounting system just closed, and someone is already asking for the results. Not tomorrow. Not after we check everything. Right now.
But closing the books does not mean the numbers are instantly ready. We still need to reconcile accounts, look for anything unusual, and make sure the results actually make sense.
Sometimes the rush is understandable. Maybe there is a board meeting or an investor call. But other times, people just want the numbers quickly because fast feels productive.
This time, instead of scrambling, I simply said, “I need some time to review everything, and I will get back to you.”
And honestly, that was okay.
Closing the books and understanding the numbers are two different things. Taking time to review the results is not being slow. It is making sure the information is correct before sharing it.
Sometimes, you just have to speak up and ask for the time you need.
