Hey Friends! How are you doing today? How are you feeling? Ready for Friday? I know that I am. Can't wait till tomorrow since I have family visiting for the weekend and its going to be awesome.
So a coworker of mine has been working 17-18 hours a day and regularly works till midnight. She sent an email at midnight last night and said she was to tired to finish up what she was doing and "can't think with a clear head".
When I read that, the first thought that came to my mind was why the hell are you torturing yourself like this. Why are you doing this to yourself? What are you trying to proof, to whom and for what? I mean I am not surprised since she even works on the weekends most of the times.
I really don't get it. What is the need to work so much? I get that there are deadlines and critical projects where there maybe times you have to put in long hours, but to continuously work more than 18 hours per day and then even through the weekend is nuts and this coworker is not even management level. Maybe if you are the CEO of a company and get paid that much to do so with such a huge responsibility but not at the level that I am at.
Its so interesting that this person puts in more hours than a lot of top level managers do at the company I work for and really does not think it is a problem. I feel that you need to have a life out of your job and find other things to do. Working at this rate is not healthy and she is close to retirement but works a lot.
I know that at the level I am at, I will not put in that much of work. For me, no pay or incentive is worth that much over my health and well being. I have a life out of work and if you constantly work the very long hours, eventually it will catch up to you.
So I guess if you are working as much as my worker on a continuous basis, ask yourself why. Is it a temporary thing or what else is going on? Get help if there is too much on your plate.
Even if you are a hard worker and want to get promoted, is it the long hours that matter or the quality of your work. There's more then just the long hours if you want to be considered for a promotion so always ask yourself why and if there is a better way. I believe there always is.
Wishing you peace and happiness from my heart to yours!
Peace
Monita
